Upgrade your WordPress Blog to 2.8.4 now

Upgrade your WordPress blogs to the newer version 2.8.4 now or you will loose all your permalinks or fall prey to spam links by a worm still circulating on the web. A little effort of upgrading your WordPress version will save you a lot of time to fixing your hacked site later. A new worm has been reported to attack the older version of WordPress blogs. The worm’s primary target has been set to destroy the Permalink settings to make it unavailable to the visitors and the Search engines as well. Thus though the readers may get the excerpt on the home page themes having excerpt facilities but while clicking on the Read More button will lad to some broken maleware link. So, after your unpatched WordPres blog getting attack of the worm, your permalinks may look something like this -

http://www.yourblogname.com/blogseo/how-to-get-backlinks/%&(%7B$%7Beval(base64_decode($_SERVER%5BHTTP_REFERER%5D))%7D%7D|.+)&%/

Look at the unwanted extensions present in your WordPress blog Permalink that surely you never want to see within your blog. Right now the worm has the capacity of targeting the unpatched older version of WordPress Blogs but doesn’t posses threat to those who have already upgraded it to the newer available version of WordPress 2.8.4.

How does the WordPress worm works?

The worm writer has used the old strategy with new tactics. It begins with registration as a user and try to access security bug fixed at earlier times to allow evaluated code which it later executes through Permalink structure. The most worst is that it has the ability to get the access of admin and then uses JavaScript to hide itself and clean up without getting in your notice when you (actual admin) tries to check out the user page.

This WordPress worm has still childish property of not having the ability of hiding itself well at the end where it catch into the notice of the bloggers within the permalinks, but still it is too late for the bloggers at this stage to prevent the damage.

The extent of damage is very deep as it causes the broken links to your well indexed blogs. The consequent are severe as Google and other search engines may remove your site from its index for having spam and malware on it.

Remedy

Upgrade your WordPress blog to latest version 2.8.4.
