When the number of impression increases considerably in compare to the number of clicks, then low click through rate happens. Since on the social networking site your site link is open to all and may rank on the home page, it attracts all types of visitors having different interests. As most of them does not bear the same interest upon the niche that you have on your blog, so they just come to your blog to check out what is interesting there. This cause high impression of advertisements in compare to those visitors who come to your blog having same interest as you and click on ads for genuine purpose with few clicks thus generating Low Click Through Rate.

Why Low CTR cause AdSense Smart Pricing?

If you are a White Hat publisher then you know that why Google AdSense is paying you. In fact, AdSense is not paying you for clicking . Your blog has some responsibility of working as better inter-mediator between buyer and advertisers. So, AdSense is paying you after considering several factors on how much potential conversion does your blogs / site can bring to the advertisers from your traffic. That is why Google AdSense does not pay for fraud clicks and pay low amount for ads on non relevant sites. They even have smart pricing techniques to decide whether the click on a certain ad have any potential of getting converted or not. If there are low chances of getting the click converted into business for the advertisers the amount being paid to the publishers will automatically gets decreases. This Low CTR will gradually make AdSense to serve the low paying ads on your blogs /sites due to low conversion potential on your blog.

So, it is better to develop quality rich content with better SEO to get much more visible on Search Engine results in front of targeted visitors to drive traffic on your post rather than emphasizing more on driving traffic through social networking sites.

AdSense smart pricing is a smart effort from Google AdWord to value the advertiser’s money which automatically reduces the maximum cost per click (CPC) for a certain page. Though the mechanism behind this calculation being complex but the logic is very simple. There are certain factors being considered while analyzing the data for a page on Google Network. If it appears that a high paying ads being served on a certain page is less like to turn into actionable business or conversion into phone call, sign-up, registration etc., the bid price of the ad on that page will get automatically reduced so as to value advertiser’s money with AdSense Smart Pricing.

Smart pricing may depend upon few of the below mentioned factors

  • Blog/ Site relevance (Whether the whole site concentrates on single niche or have a single page post on the topic). The single niche topic sites often perform better in this case.

Posted by admin On September - 8 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

AdSense ads placement or positioning is another important factor that decides the AdSense revenue generation. In-fact displaying any kind of advertisement on your site to yield maximum click conversion is an state of art mixed with common intelligence. It doesn’t matter whether you have a blog or website and how much informative content is there on your site, if your ads are not at correct position or type, it would yield you less to nothing in terms of revenue.

AdSense optimization consists of several factors like ads positioning, ads type, ads size, ads color. But we would concentrate here on the first two viz. – ads positioning, ads type.

Types of advertisement and their placement.

In my previous article, I have discussed that you can opt. from any of the two types of image vs text ads for your blog or website . So, there are certain unwritten rules for types of ads placement on your blogs and website.

Placement of AdSense image ads or image ads.

Image ads work best on certain places like

  • Banner ads placement in the header section above menu-bar, where the content is being clearly demarcated from header section.
  • Horizontal banner ads in the footer section, where it is similarly demarcated from the content section but very near to the content.
  • Flash or image banner ads sometimes on the left side of the content in its full vertical length depending upon the type of template or theme used.
  • Similar vertical length image ads placement on the right hand side bar towards footer.

Placement of text ads.

  • Text ads work best at the beginning of the content.
  • Text ads in horizontal length also works well in the middle of the content.
  • Horizontal text ads or other forms performs better just at the end of the content where the visitor end up reading your content and start searching for something related to that.

Placement of link ads.

Link ads also comes into play to contribute to your revenue earning from ads when it is placed at correct position.

  • Link ads just below menu-bar works well.
  • Link ads also works well near the footer section and in sidebar where depending upon the theme or template used.

Remember that this is my own experience and it may not work for you based on the theme used. But I am sure a strategic application from the above said placement of ads can yield you better click conversion and revenue generation.

AdSense image ads vs AdSense text ads revenue

Posted by admin On September - 8 - 2009 1 COMMENT

AdSense contextual advertising seems to be number one choice for the bloggers on the web. But every time when it comes to finalizing a new AdSense code, most of we get hang for a while over the question “Image ads only / text ads only or image and text ads to display on our site”. There seems to be a little misconception about revenue generation among some bloggers. Let me help you focusing the inside view of AdSense revenue.

What most bloggers like to display?

Most bloggers have a mis-conception that text ads helps earning more revenue than AdSense image ads. that is why they prefer to set the AdSense text ads every where on their blog by completely eliminating the image ads on their blog for earning revenue from their blog.

Lets see what does Google says about the performance of AdSense image ads Vs AdSense text ads revenue generation?

Google AdSense seems not to be very clear about this aspect to the publishers and answers very concisely for the question given below.

Will I earn more with image ads?

We can’t guarantee that you’ll earn more by displaying image ads. However, by choosing to display image ads in addition to text ads, you can help ensure that you’ll have all available advertisers bidding to appear on your site. Both text and image ads will compete in the same auction to display on your pages, and we’ll automatically display the ad(s) that we expect to earn you the most.

But there is a very clear answer from the Google AdWords team. Let us check this out.

How do image ads compete with text ads?

Because an image ad takes up the entire ad unit on a site in our content network, instead of being one of four text ads on a page, we use an effective CPM, or eCPM, model to rank all ads in the auction. This ensures that both CPC and CPM targeted text and image ads are evaluated in the same manner. As always, the highest ranking ad(s) will be served to our users. If this happens to be an image ad, this means that the ad has an eCPM that is greater than the sum of the next four ads that it out ranks.

Now if AdWords team has very clear answer that AdSense image ads can help you earning in equally better way, then

Why most of the bloggers or website owners experience low revenue generation from AdSense image ads on their site?

The answer to this low AdSense revenue generation from image ads is hidden in AdSense smart pricing of the Ads. But those who are still in fear that why you would display AdSense image ads when there seems to have Smart pricing rates get applied on AdSense image ads?
Check out what Google AdWords have to say about smartly priced Google ads.

Yes. Smart pricing applies to image as well as text ads that are served on the content network. For those who aren’t familiar with this feature, smart pricing automatically discounts the cost of keyword-targeted content clicks if our data shows that a click is less likely to convert on that site. This helps you meet your ROI goals on the content network.

So, this would be the enough reason for let off the fear of not imposing AdSense image ads on your site. I would rather like to select both types of ads on my site provided the look, placement and few other factors guarantees which type of ads would play better.

Remember that if you are not seeing image ads every where on my blog, its only because I am concerned about which type of AdSense ads would play well at which position of my blog rather than which type of AdSense ads would earn me more.

is the most asked question to my by my student bloggers.

In this post, I would like to share some of the points that I know about this happenings and would like to follow it up by those who doesn’t know the reason for better work out in their blogs.

There are few simple reasons for appearance of Google AdSense non related ads on a blog post or web-page.

  1. You may be writing about some different niche which has no sponsors. So, in absence of related advertisements either public services
  2. It is very much possible that Google AdSense system has not yet crawled the web-page soon after attachment of Google AdSense code to the page or publication of the already AdSense code added page.
  3. Your content contains verbiage which may be sensitive enough to dis-track the related AdSense ads from its primary keyword or targeted ads.
  4. The density of primary keyword is so low that it is unable to attract the related AdSense advertisements on the post/ articles.
  5. Your blog or website has so many different topics which attracts non- related Google AdSense advertisements.
  6. If you can not ignore writing something non-related along with your primary keyword content which is attracting non-related ads then try section targeting of Google AdSense ads to ignore non-related contents.

So, you have to take care of few things to attract related AdSense ads on your web-page.

  • Write about the topics of your interest but do research about the niche whether it has enough sponsors or not.

  • Keep your blog or website concentrate about a single niche to attract more related advertisements.

AdSense link units are available in 2 categories, horizontal and Square. The horizontal AdSense is again divided into 2 sizes 728  x 15 and 468 x 15. But as seen that the online visitors has a natural tendency to avoid clicking on ads which hurts all the three including Google itself. So, AdSense has facilitated few advantages to publishers and made their ads in various formats that should gets best fitted on everyone’s website or blogs and appears as an integral part of the site itself.

Why Adsense link units should be placed in navbar below menubar?

Since the general people avoids clicking on Ads, so it should be blend well and placed such that it would appear to be an integral part of the site but at the same time it should have the potential to being getting clicked. Now the navbar below menubar mostly contains category of a website or blog. If a publisher places his/ her horizontal AdSense link unit in such navbar, the common visitors would generally starts clicking on such ad links considering it as being a category link of the site and thus the AdSense earning would gets increases. Ofcourse Google Adsense clearly demark such links as being ads by Google by providing these words at the starting of the links but despite of such demarkation, general visitors often make mistakes and make clicks on those links.
