Meta title tag is very important tag for any blog post and serves as the gateway of the post. Changing meta title tag not only confuses your readers but can also hurt your existing Google ranking. In my previous post I have written about how permalink change can hurt your blog credibility.

Common SEO mistake.

One of the very common mistake that most of the non SEO experts do when we are trying to achieve better SEO for our blogs is changing blog titles for ranking higher in search engine. But it should be avoided as changing titles or permalinks etc. always hurts Google ranking. The reason being very obvious. If Google has already ranked a page, then it is due to consideration of certain on-page SEO factors. Whenever any changes made in any of these SEO factors, then the value of these factors lost their importance, hence Google and other search engines usually takes time to provide re-importance to the same page based on the newly changed factors.

You may have noticed that Google or any other search engine provides most importance to the title of any post while positioning them in the search engine ranking. That is why the most relevant title are placed towards the beginning of the search results. Once the title being changed, then Google algorithm has to re-index your post because the post or page title no more bear the same importance as previous, it may either be increased or decreased.

Google penalty.

It may appear to you that you have done better SEO for title than before and your page rank and other Google ranking factors should gets increased, but the results would not be up to your expectation. Instead it goes down for few days/months or ever. This is because it appears suspicious to Google, whenever you are trying to change something on-page that Google has already read or indexed. This is not to demoralize you but to prevent spammers to do spam activities by manipulating the Google algorithm.

So, if you have already decided to change title after publishing a blog post, then you have to be ready for facing the consequences.

Alternative way of achieving better on-page SEO without changing title.

It is better approach to do on page SEO by playing with keywords placement, using anchor keywords, keyword density etc. within the body without changing permalink, title etc. to avoid Google de- ranking.

WordPress permalink change should be avoided at any cost after publishing of any post on your blog. While using WordPress blog, we always have the advantage of  very easy WordPress permalink setup change or keywords change in permalink which lack in blogger blogs. But it is never a good idea to take advantage of such facilities once the posts has got published in your blog. Here is the very simple reason for avoiding WordPress permalink change.

Why we should avoid permalink change after posting blogs?

Appearantly WordPress blog permalink change looks very pretty and you may be very tempted once you find some SEO friendly title for your old published posts to change it along with the title of blog to hike its SEO ranking, but it will left you with lifetime agony of getting 404 error, loosing your blog credibility and consequently loosing loyal readers.

All this happens due to RSS feed technology associated with our blogs. This RSS feed updates technology works beyond our control. No sooner we use to publish our blog posts, these RSS feed updater use to update lots of feed readers that your readers already used to subscribe your blog. Now many feed readers use to decide the new post by watching its title or both permalink along with the page title. Thus they will start showing the same post twice in their feed readers once either of the blog title or permalink gets change.

The pain problem with RSS feeds is that you cannot change your feeds, or delete these any way, so -

  • This duplicate content in the feed reader will confuse your loyal readers.
  • This will cost you the credibility of  your blog.
  • Since with permalink change, the older post location get replaced with newer one but never delete the older one, this would result in 404 error page or page not found.

Conclusion:

The only solution to avoid such things is

  • Do SEO search for your title before publishing any post so that it will generate SEO friendly WordPress permalink.
  • If necessary, do change the title only and must not change the existing WordPress permalink.

Google Sandbox effect penalty is the still a matter of great debate among SEO experts and most of them want to bypass this Google trap while they are in practice to get higher page rank through inbound links. Google sandbox effect is implemented by Google to prevent crossing the tipping point of ethical Search engine optimization.

What is Google Sandbox effect?

Search engine algorithms are always abused to take the wrong advantage. Since Google search engines uses inbound linking as one of the major factor in deciding the page rank or search ranking, this inbound linking strategy is being misused by Black hat SEO experts, the beginners and others to beat Google ranking using spamming methods. Since Google always likes natural links, so in order to prevent this manipulation of Google algorithm, Google has started Google Sandbox effect specially for new websites those who tends to push link velocity or agressive link building. The consequences of sand boxing is that the new domain sites suffers a drastic drop in ranking but not instantly get de indexed. Once a site get trapped into sandbox effect, the condition may persists for several month without any visible changes in ranking and indexing despite of quality content and high page rank inbound links.

Why Google sandbox penalty for link building?

Google sandbox penalty is not a compulsory for those sites engaged in link building, in fact these are the inbound links which helps Google search engine to set the authentication and relevancy or page ranking about the site. The Google sand boxing happens mostly to new domains getting aggressively engaged in link building.

This is a positive approach by Google where the new domains are put on a filter or probation for a certain period to prevent them from getting engaged in spam activities and purchasing numerous paid links to get inbound links for their sites to get higher ranking within a short period of time.

In general it takes time for a new site to develop trust in the web and collect authentic natural inbound links. So, Google considers high number of links pointing to a new domain from the beginning to be rather suspicious and not natural. This is an another from Google behind this sandbox effect is that it tends to prevent spam sites to get at the top and gain high sells before being getting banned by Google for violation of TOS.

Keyword Meta tag is no more an issue to concern about for new bloggers and webmasters as Matt Cutts (Google Software Engineer) clearly states in his video that Google does not use meta keyword tags for search engine ranking.

Why meta keyword tag being not used for search engine ranking?

About a decade ago, Google use to decide the page relevancy to place it in search engine based on the contents of the page. So, keywords or keyword meta tags were being much abused to their extent to manipulate the search engine rankings even if the page does not have any relevancy with the search keywords. Hence many years ago, Google started dis-regarding the keyword meta tags for search engine rankings. Google now much depends upon several off page factors too for setting the page relevancy and positioning any page at the top of search engine ranking.

Read the official webmaster guide for what Matt Cutts is saying about meta keyword tags by Google Search Engine

So, it’s really a bad idea to waste time on keyword stuffing in meta keyword tags. So, try to spend time on some White hat SEO techniques instead of keywords in meta section.

Purchasing high PR paid link may ripped you off

Posted by admin On September - 19 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

A high PR paid link for increasing back links may completely ripped you off. First of all it is always recommended by Google never to use paid link on your site to avoid Google penalization. If you wish then you should prevent Google from crawling that page by using robot.txt. So, its now became meaning less to purchase paid link when the link is not being read by Google.

Anyways, some people smartly manage to cheat Google. Still purchasing high 8 PR links may not work for you as you are thinking, rather it provides the benefit juice of PR 2. But  some people are still managing paid link and others are cashing on it. I am not saying that, its common incedent but you have to be careful while opting for high PR paid link as back links.

Why PR 8 links may work as PR 2?

It is due to link dilution. Most of the link seller often found to have maintaining few domains since long with best possible SEO. They are doing this only with an intention of getting high page rank to their sites only for selling links to others as paid link to provide back links to other sites. Till now every thing is perfect but the problem arise when more than one webmaster use to acquire the paid link from the same link seller on from the same website.

Whats wrong in getting high PR paid link from such seller?

There is nothing wrong except that you are paying high price for low value PR  link. Though appearantly the back links seems to come from high PR sites but due to presence of lots of outbound links on the same page of the site will not supply all the link juice to your site, instead you are actually sharing the link juice with other outbound link sites. So, its possible that you have a paid link from a website with PR 8 but the site has 3 other outbound links present, so you are not enjoying the link juice of having back link from PR 8 site, instead you are enjoying the link juice of PR 2 site as back link to your site because other 3 outbound links are also sharing the PR 8 link juice with you.

This way you may be ripped off paying high price for a appearantly high value PR but having low value PR effect.

Page rank and back links are interrelated. Perhaps you are doing the most to acquire back links from all possible sources that you can. This makes a perfect sense to do this because these back links will help your pages to get Google page rank. So, why don’t you start from where it is most easy source of getting back links to increase your Google page rank.Yes its your own site and internal linking will serve the purpose.

What is internal linking or internal back links?

The internal links are the back links that leads to another relevant page within the same blog or website. This is very much similar to incoming links pointing towards any relevant page on your site from other websites/ blogs. This internal linking is the most authenticate way of casting a vote from the linking page towards linked page within the same website.

How internal linking helps getting Google page rank?

Internal links using anchor text being similar to back links, it helps search engines to very important details about the pages linked to.

  1. It let Google search engine know about the keyword or phrase for which the linked page would appear most relevant to serve in the search results. Thus search engines are getting more information regarding the relevancy of the page and helps them positioning the page in Google search result.
  2. The internal links also helps Google bots to know about the recently published relevant information about certain keyword or phrase without waiting long in the queue for crawling.
  3. If the internal linking are done from already indexed or ranked relevant page, then that internal back link would be of more importance in the eyes of Google search engines to authenticate the newly linked page as already authenticated page is casting vote for this page. The higher the PR of the linking page would be, the higher would be the chances of getting higher search ranking and PR or page rank for the linked page.

Internal linking is more important than external back links. Why?

Internal linking is one of the most popular SEO tool of webmasters. Incoming back links from external sites which points mostly towards your home page putting your home page to the higher priority in the eyes of search engines. Thus it is your home page that achieve higher page rank in your site leaving other pages to low priority with almost zero or 1 page rank. But with internal linking you yourself can set back links to the relevant internal pages of your site, helping Google search engines to know about these internal pages without waiting in queue for their crawling.

With the help of internal linking you can link any page with the relevant anchor text from another page. Thus setting back links to most of your site’s internal pages, help them getting page rank and positioning them in search results.

Remember: It is a bad idea to set lots of internal linking from a single page, as this will dilute the links and helps nothing for doing internal linking.

Thus internal linking or internal back links will help the internal pages of a site to get indexed soon, as well as getting page rank and higher search ranking.

Since last few years Google has proved its efficiency for being the best among search engines in regards of serving the most relevant result to its search users. Being one of the most popular search engine, all the publishers from around the world are now competing to get at the higher position of search result in Google. Google has few sets of algorithm to take any website to its top search result and Google Page rank is among the top of many other factors used to decide such ranking.

What is Google Page Rank?

Google page rank is the measure of page authenticity set by Google based upon certain criteria. The higher the page rank alloted, the higher the chances of the page to get higher position in search ranking in Google.

How higher Google page rank are alloted?

Higher Google page rank can be achieved with more and more back links. Google allots page rank based on how much back links does a page have. But getting a lots of back links does not assure that your page will get  higher Google page rank because it also depends upon the quality of back links achieved by the page. The higher the quality of back links, the more will be the rank.

The high quality of back links are those links coming from sites already have higher Google page rank. This is also followed by consideration about how much the site is relevant to the site from where the links are coming. If the back links are coming from one of the relevant site with higher Google page rank then it is considered as very quality back link in compare to those coming from non-relevant pages /sites.

Is Google page rank all for higher ranking in Google Search Engine?

Google page rank are set between 1 and 10. Getting more page rank only increases your web page’s chances to get rank at top of search results but it does not assure you about that because there are several other factors considered for search engine ranking viz. – keyword density, most relevant content, some times page popularity about particular search etc. So, Google page rank may be a primary factors  among many others but it is not all to decide your search engine ranking. You may even find lots of other websites with “0″ (Zero) page rank to get at the top of particular search.
